AMD Users Get Modded DLSS 5 Workaround, But Performance Lags
AMD users who want to experience the benefits of Nvidia's DLSS 5 technology have been given a glimmer of hope by the modding community. Developer danielblnc has created a closed-source workaround, dubbed 'DLSS-NR-on-AMD', which injects DLSS 5 into DirectX 12 games with FSR support on AMD's RDNA 4 GPUs.
The mod is likely using a dynamic wrapper to intercept NGX API calls and fool the DLSS 5 DLL into loading on an AMD GPU. However, performance drops significantly compared to native Nvidia hardware, even on top-end RX 9070 XT GPUs. Initial tests showed only 28 FPS at 1080p in Cyberpunk 2077, but a patch has since improved this to a stable 30 FPS.
The ultimate goal is to match the performance of an RTX 5070 Ti GPU, which is a lofty target given the RX 9070 XT's current 30 FPS at 1080p with DLSS 5 enabled. Despite these challenges, the modding community remains optimistic that they can eventually replicate the level of performance seen on native Nvidia hardware.
