American Airlines Axes First Class on Boeing 777-300ERs, Introduces New Business Class

American Airlines has started reconfiguring its Boeing 777-300ERs, eliminating first class and introducing new business class cabins. The first plane, with registration code N718AN, entered service on September 2, 2026.

The Boeing 777-300ER retrofit project, known as 'Olympus', aims to reconfigure the entire fleet of 20 planes by the end of 2027. This includes eight Flagship Suite Preferred seats, which are the business class plus seats in the first row of each cabin.

The new configuration features 70 business class seats, up from 52 previously, while premium economy capacity increases to 44 seats from 28. Economy capacity remains unchanged at 216 seats.
