American Airlines Stock Ticks Higher on Long-Haul Premium Bet
American Airlines' stock rose about 1.6% as investors weigh in on its long-haul premium strategy, which may not pay off until 2028.
The airline's multiyear plan aims to capture higher-yield travelers, including self-funded leisure passengers and corporate clients, by upgrading aircraft with premium cabins.
American is reconfiguring its fleet around high-yield cabins, increasing business class capacity and adding or expanding premium economy sections on long-haul routes.
The company expects to lift lie-flat business and premium economy seating by about 50% by the end of the decade, anchored by new Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft and extensive retrofits across existing widebody jets.
