American Airlines Unveils Luxurious Retrofitted Boeing Planes
American Airlines is revamping its Boeing planes to offer more premium travel options. The airline's first retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER plane features a new layout with 144 premium seats, including 70 lie-flat seats in its Flagship Suite section at the front of the plane.
The Flagship Suite offers sliding doors and can bring in close to $10,000 on some long-haul international routes compared to $2,000 or less for a seat in the back. The airline also has a Premium Economy section with 44 seats that have privacy headrest wings and adjustable calf and footrests.
American Airlines plans to retrofit its full fleet of 20 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft by next year. This move is part of the airline's strategy to catch up with rivals Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, which have a head start on catering to high-spending travelers.
