Amex Cancels Reward Multiplier Program and Deadline Looms
American Express has announced that its Reward Multiplier program will be discontinued as of September 30, 2026. The program allowed cardholders to earn bonus Membership Rewards points on purchases from select brands such as Apple, Nykaa, and MakeMyTrip. Cardholders who used the Reward Multiplier for these purchases should complete them before the deadline, which is 11:59 PM on September 29, 2026.
The end of Reward Multiplier does not mean that the Membership Rewards program itself is ending. American Express stated that the base Membership Rewards program remains unaffected and standard earn rates and existing point balances will not change. Cardholders can continue to earn points through ShopWise, an independent platform offering e-Vouchers from over 200 brands.
It's worth noting that American Express says transactions must be fully completed by September 29, 2026, to qualify under the current program terms and conditions. Starting a transaction before the deadline will not be enough to earn the bonus points.
