Amex India Axes Points Pooling, Fee Waivers in Membership Rewards Overhaul
American Express is making significant changes to its Membership Rewards program in India. Starting October 11, 2026, cardholders will no longer be able to pool points across multiple cards, with each card retaining its own balance and no inter-card transfers allowed.
The company is also eliminating the 50% annual fee waiver on the MRCC, which means mid-tier spenders will either have to pay the full fee or enjoy a full waiver. Supplementary card spending remains tied to the primary card.
The eligibility for monthly bonuses now depends on when transactions post to the account, not when they occur. Points credit is given at month-end after posting, and overdue balances halt both earning and redemption until cleared.
