Amex Points Can Be Transferred to Leaders Club for Redemptions Below 3,000 Points
American Express Membership Rewards points can now be transferred to the Leaders Club loyalty program at a 4:1 ratio, offering redemption opportunities that start below 3,000 points per night. However, there's a catch: taxes and fees apply to these award stays.
To determine how much you'll need to pay in taxes and fees, simply select the standard paid rate for your stay instead of the Leaders Club redemption option. The platform will then display the total taxes and fees associated with your booking.
For example, a four-night stay at the Ritz Paris next summer would cost 40,251 points per night. If you don't have enough points to cover the entire stay, select the standard paid rate instead of attempting to redeem points for the full amount. You'll see that the city tax comes out to about $27.10 per night.
Taxes and fees can vary significantly across Leading Hotels of the World's portfolio. While some properties bundle taxes into their room rates, others charge separate value-added taxes or occupancy taxes.
