Amex's New Hotel Transfer Partner Offers Surprising Value
American Express's new transfer partner is Leading Hotels of the World, and it may be its most underrated yet. While many saw little fanfare around its July introduction, this hotel group offers a unique value proposition for Amex cardholders.
One reason for its relative obscurity is the 4:1 transfer ratio from Amex Membership Rewards points to Leaders Club points, which can make it seem like more points are required than actually are. But analysis shows that the average value of a Leader's Club point is an impressive 8 cents per point.
This means that for many properties, booking with Leading Hotels of the World through Amex's transfer partner program can be just as good, or even better, than booking through other major hotel chains like Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors. For example, a stay at The Hotel Chelsea in New York City costs 11,875 Leaders Club points per night, which is equivalent to 47,500 Amex Membership Rewards points.
Compared to similar properties from Hilton or Marriott, Leading Hotels of the World often offers more value for your points. Even high-end hotels like The Ritz Paris can be booked for fewer Amex points than some Marriott properties in Paris.
