Amgen and AstraZeneca's Lung Cancer Treatment Combination Shows Promise

Amgen and AstraZeneca have announced positive results from their late-stage clinical trial of a combined treatment for extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer. The trial evaluated Amgen's Imdelltra alongside AstraZeneca's Imfinzi as a maintenance treatment, comparing it against Imfinzi used alone.

The study found that the combination therapy demonstrated improvements across multiple measures, including overall survival, progression-free survival, and response rate. The companies reported no new safety concerns emerged during the trial.

Imdelltra received accelerated approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2024 for extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer, followed by traditional approval in 2025. The drug generated $513 million in sales for Amgen last year, representing approximately 23% of its total revenue.
