Amgen-AstraZeneca Lung Cancer Combo Boosts Survival Rates
A combination of Amgen's targeted immunotherapy, Imdelltra, and AstraZeneca's cancer drug Imfinzi has shown significant improvement in overall survival for patients with extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer.
The late-stage trial tested the combination as a maintenance treatment against Imfinzi alone in patients whose disease had not progressed after standard induction therapy. The results showed that the combined treatment improved overall survival, progression-free survival, and response rate without any new safety concerns identified.
Imdelltra received accelerated approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2024 and traditional approval in 2025 for extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer. Last year, the drug generated $513 million in sales for Amgen, accounting for about 23% of the company's total sales.
