Amgen Faces Cyberattack, Patient Health Information Potentially Stolen
Amgen has disclosed a data breach involving patient health information, becoming the latest healthcare firm to fall victim to cyberattacks. The company stated that hackers stole its data and patient information from cloud storage systems run by third-party providers on July 29.
According to Amgen's regulatory filing, the incident was deemed material due to the potential sensitivity of the affected files. As a result, the healthcare sector is grappling with a surge in cyberattacks, with several companies recently affected, including Abbott Laboratories and Medtronic.
Amgen has activated its cybersecurity response plan, implemented containment measures, and brought in independent forensic experts to investigate. The company is assessing whether patient information may have been accessed or stolen but has not found any impact on its products, manufacturing operations, financial reporting systems, or ability to meet patient needs.
