Amgen Surges Past Expectations with Double-Digit Growth Across Portfolio
Amgen's second-quarter earnings call saw broad-based portfolio momentum, driven by double-digit growth in key products like Repatha, EVENITY, and TEZSPIRE. CEO Robert Bradway highlighted that 22 products achieved double-digit sales growth, and 17 products annualized over $1 billion in sales.
Bradway attributed the company's outperformance to the breadth and depth of its portfolio, as well as its ability to grow through patent expirations and increased competition. The company also pointed to the performance of its biosimilars and innovative oncology franchises as important contributors this quarter.
The results exceeded Wall Street estimates, with revenue reaching $10.05 billion (9.5% year-on-year growth, 6.9% beat) and adjusted EPS at $6.29 (12% beat). Amgen also lifted its revenue guidance for the full year to $38.8 billion at the midpoint from $37.8 billion, a 2.6% increase.
Management addressed analyst questions on various topics, including trial design and endpoints, business development and capital allocation, tolerability profiles, and regulatory oversight. Analysts will be watching key catalysts in upcoming quarters, such as pivotal clinical trial readouts and the impact of expanded manufacturing capacity on supply reliability and launch execution.
