Android Drop: Five New Features Simplify Life and Enhance Style

The September Android Drop has brought five new features to help make life easier and more stylish. According to Erik Kay, VP of Engineering for Android Core Platform, these updates are designed to adapt to users' lives.

The first feature is the ability to remember where important items were placed using Gemini. Users can ask their device to save the location of items like passports or spare keys, and later retrieve this information with ease. This feature is available on Android 16+ devices in countries where Gemini and Find Hub are supported.

The second feature, Motion Assist, helps reduce motion sickness during rides by adding a subtle bubble overlay to the screen that moves with the vehicle. Users can customize the bubble's shape, color, and opacity to match their style. This feature is available on phones using Android 17.

The third feature, Guided Vision, allows users to share their camera in Gemini Live to hear descriptions of what's in front of them. This feature is designed for and with the blind and low-vision communities and can help with tasks like reading fine print or identifying objects. It will be available on phones running Android 9+ in countries where Gemini is available.

The fourth feature allows users to create and edit notes with friends directly within Google Messages, making it easier to collaborate without switching apps. The fifth feature enables users to personalize their chats with custom backgrounds and themes using Chat Theme in Google Messages.
