Android Phone's Location History Feature Takes Up 6GB of Storage
A writer discovered that her Android phone's Location History feature, also known as Timeline, was taking up nearly 6GB of storage space. She checked her device and found that she had been tracked for two years without even realizing it. The feature builds a personal map of the places visited and routes taken, but she didn't need it since she already documented her travels through photos and social media.
The writer decided to turn off Timeline, which stopped it from continuing to build her location history. She also removed the existing data by choosing 'Turn off and delete activity'.
To check if Timeline is enabled on an Android phone, users can open Google Maps, tap their profile picture, and select 'Your Timeline'. From there, they can turn off Timeline and delete their activity.
