Android User Ditches Google Apps for Better Alternatives
A seasoned Android user replaced Google's default apps one by one and discovered that some of them can be improved upon. Pankil, a freelance writer, swapped out YouTube, Chrome, Gboard, Google Photos, and Quick Share for alternative apps.
The first app he replaced was YouTube with LibreTube, an open-source client that offers all the features of YouTube Premium without the cost or clutter. LibreTube allows users to customize their interface, hide unwanted tabs, and even use it as a music player.
Next up was Chrome, which Pankil swapped out for Samsung Browser. While Chrome gets the job done, Samsung Browser offers more features, including extensions that can block ads, add subtitles to videos, and fetch discount codes while shopping.
Pankil also replaced Google Photos with Aves Gallery, a free and open-source app that offers just the right amount of functionality without feeling overwhelming. Aves Gallery has four simple tabs for photos, collections, favorites, and albums, making navigation smooth and effortless.
