Android's New Sideloading Rules Arrive Early for Power Users
Google is introducing a new sideloading flow for power users on Android devices. The advanced flow, which was announced in March this year, allows users to install apps from unverified developers without using ADB (Android Debug Bridge). However, the process is intentionally complicated to prevent regular users from installing malicious apps.
Users must first enable a toggle in the Developer options menu, then authenticate themselves and restart their device. After 24 hours, they can sideload apps from unverified developers, but will still receive a warning each time an app is installed or updated. The new flow is being rolled out gradually and may not appear on all devices immediately.
Google has also introduced the Android Developer Verifier system service, which must be installed in the background for the feature to work. Users can install it manually from the Play Store to increase their chances of gaining access to the new sideloading flow sooner.
