Anthropic Crushes Q2 Revenue Projections in Run-Up to $190B+ IPO
Anthropic, backed by Amazon, has delivered strong growth numbers that could boost expectations for its upcoming IPO. The company's Claude developer generated $11.5 billion in preliminary second-quarter revenue, a 14-fold increase from $787 million in the same period last year. This surge more than doubles the revenue from Q1 and aligns with Anthropic's May-disclosed annualized revenue run rate of $47 billion.
The company has also achieved positive adjusted operating income for the first time, which is crucial given its heavy spending on GPUs, model training, inference capacity, and talent. This milestone could help investors justify using more aggressive revenue multiples when valuing the business.
Anthropic confidentially filed for a U.S. IPO on June 1 after raising $65 billion at a $965 billion post-money valuation in May. The company projects $190 billion to $200 billion in revenue by 2028, making its growth trajectory a key factor in determining its IPO multiple.
