Anthropic Hires Google Chip Veteran for Custom Semiconductor Push
Anthropic PBC has made a significant hire in its push to develop custom semiconductors. The company announced that Amir Salek, a veteran of Google's custom chip program and tensor processing unit business, is joining Anthropic as part of this effort.
Salek will lead the compute team at Anthropic, which is developing the Claude platform. He was responsible for delivering the first seven generations of Google's tensor processing units until 2022. Salek has also worked at Nvidia and Cerberus Capital Management, a private equity firm co-founded by Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg.
Anthropic aims to build an in-house silicon business as it expands its operations. The company has already signed deals with several vendors, including UK-based chip startup Fractile, for an initial order of $250 million, with plans to expand the contract in the future.
