Anthropic IPO Could Be Largest Ever, Leaving Trailing Stocks
Anthropic's upcoming IPO is being touted as the largest in history by Morningstar's chief global markets editor Tom Lauricella, potentially surpassing SpaceX. He claims that these deals become 'must-own stocks' for institutional investors even with unproven business models and monetization strategies.
The two public companies most directly exposed to Anthropic's outcome are Alphabet (GOOGL) and Amazon (AMZN), which have already priced in the potential impact of the IPO. GOOGL reported a $99.03 billion equity securities gain tied largely to Anthropic, while AMZN disclosed a non-operating pre-tax other income of $53.4 billion from investments in Anthropic.
Anthropic has committed to up to 5 GW of Trainium capacity with Amazon, and Alphabet's Google Cloud accelerated to 82% growth at $24.77B in Q2 due in part to Anthropic as a marquee customer. Lauricella warns that as AI issuers pile in, semiconductors alone now sit near 16% of the US stock market.
