Anthropic IPO Could Bring Massive Gains to Tech Firms' Shareholders

Anthropic, the owner and operator of the popular Claude chatbot, has a $65 billion annualized revenue run rate. This is about seven times its revenue at the end of last year.

The company plans to go public later this year through an initial public offering (IPO) that could value it at $2 trillion or more.

Ordinary investors can't invest in companies like Anthropic directly, but they can own stocks of publicly traded tech firms that have invested heavily in its pre-IPO shares. These include Amazon (AMZN), Alphabet (GOOGL, GOOG), Salesforce (CRM), and Zoom Communications (ZM).

Amazon's $33 billion investment gave it a 21% stake in Anthropic, while Alphabet holds a 15% stake. The company can't invest more due to their competition in the large language model space.
