Anthropic Taps Google Chip Expert to Drive Semiconductor Ambitions
Anthropic PBC has made a significant move into the hardware sector by hiring Amir Salek, a veteran of Google's custom chip program. Salek will join Anthropic's compute team and report directly to James Bradbury. His background in developing tensor processing units (TPUs) at Google is expected to be valuable in driving Anthropic's push into making its own semiconductors.
Salek was the founder of the custom chip program at Alphabet Inc.'s Google, where he led the development of the first seven generations of TPU chips. He ran Google's tensor processing unit business until 2022 and brings a wealth of experience in hardware development to his new role.
