Apple Accuses OpenAI of Evidence Tampering in Trade Secrets Dispute
Apple has intensified its trade secrets dispute with OpenAI by accusing the AI company of deliberately destroying evidence. The tech giant claims that former Apple engineer Chang Liu, who joined OpenAI in January, downloaded proprietary Apple circuit designs and used them while employed at the company.
Digital forensics conducted on Liu's company-issued MacBook revealed persistent unauthorized access to Apple's cloud infrastructure following his departure from the iPhone maker. Apple alleges that Liu instructed an OpenAI coworker to delete evidence, which the colleague reportedly agreed to do.
The case is scheduled for judicial review on October 1 before a federal judge. Apple is seeking financial compensation and a judicial injunction preventing OpenAI from utilizing any misappropriated intellectual property.
