Apple Cancels All-Glass 20th Anniversary iPhone Over Production Yield Concerns
Rumors of Apple's all-glass iPhone for its 20th anniversary have been canceled, according to Jefferies analyst Edison Lee. The project was expected to launch in fall 2027 and feature a curved glass panel with virtually no cutouts in the display. Lee's analysis points to poor production yield as the reason for the cancellation.
The iPhone has been rumored to be redesigned since at least 2025, with the all-glass model expected to carry a blended retail price of around $2,060. The cancellation is seen as a major setback for Apple's ability to raise iPhone prices going forward, especially given rising memory costs.
Lee also pointed out that the cancellation may not be isolated to the all-glass model, but could signal Apple's plans to eventually bring this design to other iPhone lines, such as the Pro and Pro Max models. He believes this would further raise those models' average selling price and margin at a time when profitability is being squeezed by rising component costs.
