Apple Ditches Per-Install Fee, Installs 5% Transaction Commission in Europe
Apple has announced a change to its European app-store fee structure, replacing a per-install charge with a 5% transaction commission. The move is designed to ease regulatory pressure while maintaining Apple's ability to monetize transactions made through apps distributed outside its App Store.
The company will discontinue the Core Technology Fee and initial-acquisition fees, which were criticized by developers for being complex and unpredictable. In their place, a simpler 5% commission on digital transactions will be applied.
Apple's stock price slipped 0.4% to $309.285 following the announcement, with investors weighing the implications of the new fee structure on the company's Services revenue. The new fees are set to take effect on October 1.
