The iPhone 17 was named the world's best-selling smartphone for the second consecutive quarter in Q2 2026, according to Counterpoint Research. Apple secured five of the top 10 spots on the list, with the base model capturing 6% of global smartphone unit sales. The company's dominance extended beyond the top three positions, with the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro finishing second and third respectively.

Samsung claimed the remaining five spots in the top 10, led by its Galaxy S26 Ultra, which was the best-selling Android smartphone of the quarter. Apple's unit sales grew 5% year-over-year despite a broader market decline of 11%, with strength in regions such as India and South Korea driving growth.

The base iPhone 17's success can be attributed to upgrades that narrowed the performance gap between standard and Pro models, making it a more compelling purchase. Strong demand for premium models was reinforced by trade-in programs and promotional offers.
