Apple Drops $60B on Domestic Manufacturing Ahead of CEO Transition
Apple has announced a significant investment in domestic manufacturing, committing $60 billion to Texas as part of its broader $600 billion plan to invest in US-based production. The company's decision comes as CEO Tim Cook prepares to step down and hand the reins to John Ternus.
The $600 billion roadmap was initially unveiled in 2025 with a commitment of $500 billion, which was later increased to $600 billion through the American Manufacturing Program (AMP). The Texas allocation will be used for advanced AI server production, device assembly, and workforce training programs at the Houston facility.
Apple's decision to build AI server production capacity in Houston signals that the company views on-device and cloud AI as central to its product roadmap. The move is also seen as a hedge against trade policy uncertainty, providing a domestic alternative for the company's supply chain.
