Apple Foldable iPhone May Launch at Sky-High Price
A new report by IDC suggests that Apple's (AAPL) foldable iPhone will be priced significantly above expectations, potentially as high as $2,550. According to industry sources cited by IDC, chip shortages and supply-chain bottlenecks may drive up the price of the device.
IDC forecasts that Apple will sell more than 17 million foldable iPhones by the end of 2027, generating over $45.7 billion in revenue. However, it's worth noting that this forecast is based on industry sources and not directly from Apple or its suppliers.
The report highlights a distinction between pricing claims and volume forecasts. While an elevated average selling price could indicate margin-accretive mix rather than demand destruction, the unit forecast is more exposed to revision as actual build plans emerge.
