Apple Grabs Record Market Share as Android Shipments Plummet
Apple's global smartphone market share hit a record high of 23.6% in 2026, while Android shipments fell 24.3%, according to recent data from IDC and JPMorgan.
This trend is attributed to the sharp divergence between iOS and Android demand, with Apple's premium positioning shielding it from the worst of the downturn. Meanwhile, smaller Android manufacturers face higher component costs due to lower purchasing power.
The decline in Android shipments is heavily concentrated in the low-end segment, where sub-$100 device sales plummeted nearly 60%. This has accelerated consolidation among lower-tier Android OEMs, with players such as Huawei and Samsung gaining market share at their expense.
