Apple iPhone 18 Lead Times Trail Previous Year, But Analysts Warn of Caveats

JPMorgan analysts have tracked delivery lead times for Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, finding that they are lower than last year's iPhone 17 models. Globally, the average delivery-at-home timing for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max was 7 and 19 days, respectively, in the first week of pre-orders, compared to 15 and 24 days for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max a year earlier.

The largest year-over-year shift was seen in China, where lead times for the 18 Pro and Pro Max tracked at 13 and 21 days, respectively, compared to 30 days each for both iPhone 17 models last year. JPMorgan noted that Chinese consumers are already primed for adoption of the foldable form factor following several years of domestic manufacturers' offerings.

The analysts cautioned against reading too much into the data at this early stage, as supply allocations can be different from prior years given the absence of a base model launch and the incremental rollout of Apple's foldable device, called Duo. They emphasized that tracking the trajectory of lead times over time will be important for gauging underlying demand.
