Apple Joins Google in Renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America'

President Trump's executive order to rename Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' has sparked changes in Apple Maps and Google Maps. The name change, which was prompted by Trump's order, is being implemented differently by each company.

Last week, Trump signed the executive order calling for the name change, and the U.S. Geographic Names Information System updated its records to reflect this. However, it seems that Apple took a bit longer than Google to make the switch, with some users still seeing 'Lake Ontario' on their devices.

Axios reported that Trump reached out directly to Apple to ask for the name change, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum confirmed this in an interview. The timing of the order is not coincidental, as tensions between the U.S. and Canada are running high over tariffs.

The new name is not being used universally, however - when viewed from within Canada or outside both countries, Lake Ontario's original name still appears on Apple Maps and Google Maps.
