Apple Joins Google in Renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America'

Google made a similar move last month, renaming one of the five Great Lakes in its system to 'Lake America.' MapQuest has even created a template that lets users call the body of water whatever they wish.

According to the US Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), which is responsible for officially naming geographic features in the United States, Lake Ontario was formally changed to 'Lake America' following Trump's executive order. However, private companies like Apple and Google are free to choose their own course when it comes to naming geographic features.
