Apple Pay Debuts in Philippines with Four Partner Banks
Apple Pay has finally arrived in the Philippines, partnering with four banks to offer contactless payments to eligible Visa and Mastercard cardholders. The participating banks are China Banking Corp., GoTyme Bank, Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co., and Union Bank of the Philippines.
The service allows users to make payments using their iPhone or Apple Watch at contactless terminals, as well as through supported apps and websites on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Visa country manager Jeffrey Navarro said that Apple Pay represents 'the next evolution of payments in the Philippines,' combining ease of use, simplicity, and security in every transaction. Mastercard echoed this view, saying that the rollout gives consumers another secure and convenient way to pay as digital adoption continues to gain momentum.
UnionBank president and CEO Ana Aboitiz Delgado noted that the integration of Apple Pay aligns with their push to make banking more intuitive and secure for customers. She added that the service enhances the payment experience by allowing customers to pay quickly and securely with the devices they use every day.
