Apple Presses Ahead with Ambitious Glass-Focused iPhone Redesign
Apple's plans for a major iPhone redesign are still on track for 2027, despite earlier concerns that manufacturing challenges had derailed the project. The new design, internally known as V73 and V74, will use glass across the front and back of the phone, curving into the sides around a central metal band.
The plan is to launch the redesign in time for Apple's 20th-anniversary iPhone model. A more ambitious version using even more glass was abandoned earlier due to issues with joining the panels reliably and manufacturing the design at scale.
Jefferies analyst Edison Lee had downgraded Apple, arguing that abandoning the all-glass design could weaken the company's ability to sell increasingly expensive smartphones. However, according to Bloomberg, Apple plans to proceed with the new Pro models using glass across the front and back of the phone.
