Apple Stock Soars as EU App Store Terms Overhaul Reduces Regulatory Risk
Apple's stock has risen significantly in morning trading on August 19, 2026, by around 2.8% to approximately $318 per share.
This increase is largely attributed to a major overhaul of Apple's App Store terms for European developers, which investors view as reducing regulatory risk.
As part of the changes, Apple has scrapped the controversial Core Technology Fee for apps distributed outside the App Store and replaced it with a simpler 5% 'Core Technology Commission' on digital transactions.
The revised terms also include unified business terms, revised commissions (with up to 26% for standard App Store in-app purchases), elimination of certain fees, and expanded eligibility for alternative app marketplaces/web distribution. These changes take effect on October 1, 2026, and are seen as bringing Apple into closer compliance with the EU's Digital Markets Act.
Supporting factors include a recent upgrade from Rothschild & Co. Redburn to Buy from Neutral on August 17th, with a $400 price target, citing product roadmap strength, potential foldable iPhone upside, and a possible improved AI strategy.
