Apple Stock Surge Foreshadowed by Own Reports on AI-Driven Hardware Upgrades
Apple's stock surge over the past year may seem surprising to some investors, but it was actually foreshadowed by the company's own reports. For more than six months before the run began, Apple published evidence that its AI features were driving hardware upgrades.
In its fiscal Q1 2025 results, markets where Apple Intelligence had launched showed stronger year-over-year performance for the iPhone 16 family compared to markets without it. This trend continued in subsequent quarters, with Mac revenue up 16% year over year alongside a silicon line management designed for AI workloads.
By fiscal Q3 2025, just before the surge began, revenue was growing 6.0% year over year, significantly higher than the average of 1.8% seen in the previous three years. The payoff landed in fiscal Q3 2026, with revenue reaching $109.4 billion, up 16% from the same period last year.
However, supply constraints limited Apple's ability to meet demand, particularly for Mac and iPhone products. Management attributed this to a demand forecast miss and advanced-node chip supply issues.
