Apple Surpasses $4.5 Trillion Market Cap Under Tim Cook's Leadership
Tim Cook took over as CEO of Apple on August 24, 2011, after Steve Jobs' resignation. Fifteen years later, Cook is passing the torch to John Ternos, who will assume the role on September 15.
During his tenure, Apple's revenue skyrocketed from $108 billion in 2011 to a projected $416 billion in 2025. In one quarter alone, the company generated $109.4 billion in revenue, surpassing an entire year's earnings at the start of Cook's leadership.
The iPhone's revenue also increased significantly, reaching $54.3 billion in the last quarter compared to $47 billion in 2011. Apple's market capitalization broke numerous records under Cook's leadership, including becoming the first trillion-dollar company in 2018 and surpassing three trillion dollars in January 2022.
Cook transformed Apple from a hardware-based company into a services giant, with annual revenue reaching $109 billion and more than 1.5 billion paid subscriptions across various services like Apple Music, Apple TV+, and others.
