Apple Takes a Different Path on AI
Apple's approach to artificial intelligence (AI) stands out from its peers in the tech industry. The company is integrating AI features into its existing products and services, rather than creating a new chatbot or cloud division like some of its competitors.
This strategy, known as Apple Intelligence, aims to bolster the company's walled garden ecosystem, which drives customer stickiness and is a key factor in Apple's success. The iPhone and services divisions have been major contributors to this growth, with iPhone revenue increasing 21.7% year over year in Q3 2026.
Apple's financials remain strong, with analysts projecting $141 billion in free cash flow for fiscal 2026. The company has also returned significant capital to investors through share repurchases. In contrast, some of its peers are directing extraordinary amounts of money towards AI infrastructure, with the hyperscalers estimated to spend a combined $1 trillion in capital expenditures in 2027.
