Apple Tests Chips from Banned Chinese Firms Amid AI-Driven Shortage

Apple has started testing memory chips from China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), a move to counter the ongoing memory shortage caused by the AI boom. The tests are being conducted across Apple's iPhone and MacBook lineup.

The memory shortage has led to substantial pricing issues for consumer electronics, with Apple recently hiking prices for most of its product line. Data centers and AI chips have eaten up the market, leaving consumers to suffer.

ChangXin Memory Technologies is China's largest chipmaker by market value and had one of the biggest public debuts in Chinese history. The company is expected to bring substantial competition to industry giants such as SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron.
