Apple Unveils First Foldable iPhone Amid Rising Memory Costs
Apple is marking its biggest design shift since the iPhone X debut in 2017 with the release of its first foldable iPhone today. The new device, along with an updated iPhone 18 Pro lineup, represents a significant change for Apple under its new Chief Executive Officer John Ternus.
Rising memory prices have driven up costs across the smartphone industry, and analysts expect Apple's foldable device to carry a retail price near or above $2,000. Despite high pricing, Citi projects 7.3 million foldable unit sales, while HSBC holds a Buy rating with a $366 price target on Apple stock.
Chinese phone makers Huawei and Xiaomi have introduced competing foldable phones this week, which may put pressure on Apple's pricing strategy. Apple is also updating its wearable device lines with the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, featuring internal hardware upgrades to better track user fitness data.
