Apple Unveils Foldable iPhone Duo with Enhanced AI Capabilities
Apple has launched its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, which combines a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display with a 7.6-inch inner display. This new form factor allows users to have a conventional smartphone experience when closed and a larger canvas for content consumption, gaming, and productivity when opened.
The iPhone Duo also features Apple's expanding AI capabilities, including Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, which provide personal-context understanding, on-screen awareness, and privacy-focused processing through on-device computing and Private Cloud Compute. The A20 Pro chip has a dual 16-core Neural Engine with twice the compute capability for on-device AI models.
The launch of the foldable iPhone could boost investor confidence in Apple stock, which has appreciated 16% year to date (YTD) but underperformed the broader Zacks Computer and Technology sector's return of 18%. However, Apple shares have outperformed Alphabet, Microsoft, and Amazon over the same time frame.
Apple expects high iPhone demand, forecasting mid-teens year-over-year iPhone revenue growth for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 (September quarter) despite supply and foreign-exchange headwinds. The company's initiatives to develop next-generation AI capabilities could stimulate future device upgrades.
