Apple's Foldable iPhone Duo: A Luxury Item for Early Adopters?

Apple has entered the foldable phone market with its new iPhone Duo, which features a larger foldable display and a high price tag of $1,999. Analysts are questioning whether this device will appeal to mass-market consumers.

The iPhone Duo can run work, entertainment, and creative apps across its foldable display and is being promoted as a personal AI hub. However, analysts noted that the posture looked unusually vast, suggesting that the device may be more of a style accessory for early adopters rather than a practical tool for everyday use.

Despite this, Apple's sales numbers are expected to be significant, with Counterpoint forecasting around 6 million handsets sold by the end of the year. This would give Apple almost a quarter of the worldwide foldable market, although Samsung currently holds about 40% market share.

The real test for Apple will come when initial hype wears off and sales need to remain robust as pent-up demand from existing iPhone owners starts to dry up. Analysts are waiting to see if the Duo can prove itself to be more than just a luxury item.
