Apple's Foldable iPhone Threatens Samsung's Seven-Year Lead
Samsung's dominance in the foldable smartphone market may be at risk after Apple unveiled its first foldable iPhone, the $1,999 iPhone Duo.
The device was announced on Wednesday and puts Apple directly against Samsung's Galaxy Fold line, which has been leading the market for seven years.
Samsung launched the original Galaxy Fold in 2019 and has since spent years improving its design and features. The company's latest foldables, including the passport-style Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the higher-end Fold Ultra 8, have seen sales increase by about 30% from a year earlier.
However, Forrester analyst Dipanjan Chatterjee noted that Apple's entry into the market is 'straight out of Apple's playbook': wait for a product to work through its problems, then enter once the market shows signs of viability and reshape the category.
