Apple's Foldable iPhone to Ship Over 10 Million Units in First Year

Apple's entry into the foldable smartphone market is expected to bring significant momentum to the sector, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). The Cupertino tech giant will launch its first foldable device on September 9, as part of a major product showcase event under new CEO John Ternus. Analysts predict that Apple will ship over 10 million foldable iPhones in the first year, rescuing the category from an impending downturn.

The high-end, book-style foldable handset is expected to retail for $2,500 and target an elite consumer segment. Despite its high price tag, analysts expect strong consumer interest in the device, which operates like a traditional smartphone when closed and opens outward like a book to reveal a tablet-sized display.

IDC forecasts that Apple's arrival will inject significant momentum into the market, averting what was projected to be a double-digit percentage decline this year. By 2027, Apple is expected to command 40% of total worldwide foldable shipments.
