Apple's Growth Engine Cracks Under Regulatory Pressure
Apple is facing two significant challenges that could impact its growth and profitability. The company's App Store, which has been a major contributor to its services revenue, is under pressure due to regulatory changes and decreased consumer spending.
The Financial Times reports that U.S. consumer spending through the App Store fell 6% in the June quarter, compared to a 9% growth rate a year earlier. Apple's Services revenue still reached a record $30.7 billion, but it missed Wall Street's expectations of $31.4 billion.
Additionally, Apple is facing rising memory costs, which could further pressure its margins. CEO Tim Cook has described the increasing memory prices as a '100-year flood' and has complained to the Trump administration about Micron Technology's price increases.
The company is pinning its hopes on a successful iPhone launch in September, which could drive upgrades, higher average selling prices, and renewed ecosystem engagement. However, this is an expectation rather than a certainty.
