Apple's iPhone 17 Series Sets Record with $170B in First-Year Revenue
Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 17 series generated record first-year revenue, exceeding $170 billion in global wholesale revenue. This marks an 11% increase from the iPhone 16 series and the highest launch-year revenue for any iPhone generation.
According to Counterpoint Research analysts, the iPhone 17 lineup's success can be attributed to its strongest product cycle in years, with features previously reserved for Pro devices now available on base models. This strategy has helped Apple appeal to both first-time upgraders and existing Pro users.
The base model iPhone 17 saw a revenue growth of 1.3 times from its predecessor during the first year, making it the world's best-selling smartphone by unit volume in the first half of 2026. China emerged as Apple's biggest growth engine, with wholesale revenue from the iPhone 17 series in the country jumping 35% from the prior generation and representing nearly 24% of global series revenue.
Counterpoint expects Apple's next iPhone cycle to provide another boost, with the introduction of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max alongside its first foldable iPhone. The research firm also predicts that an ultra-premium foldable could lift Apple's average iPhone selling price while expanding its role as a catalyst for the broader foldable smartphone market.
