Aptoide Arrives in Google Play as First Third-Party App Store

A new era has begun in the Google Play Store, marking a significant shift in how third-party app stores operate. The first such store to arrive is Aptoide, a game-focused platform that has been available as a sideloaded client since the early days of Android.

This development comes after a long-running antitrust lawsuit with Epic Games, which resulted in Judge James Donato imposing several remedies, including allowing third-party app stores in Google Play. This stipulation was one of the most contentious aspects of the ruling, and Google had initially tried to avoid it by agreeing to a settlement with Epic that would have certified third-party stores without hosting them in Google Play.

However, this settlement ultimately fell through when it became clear that the court wouldn't approve it. As a result, Google is now complying with the judge's orders and allowing Aptoide to be downloaded directly from the Play Store.
