Aptoide Breaks Ground as First Third-Party App Store on Google Play
Aptoide has become the first third-party app store to land inside Google Play in the United States. This milestone marks a significant shift for Android users, who can now access alternative stores without resorting to sideloading APK files.
The development comes after a lengthy legal battle between Epic Games and Google, which culminated in a 2024 ruling ordering Google to open its platform to competing app stores.
Aptoide's integration into the Play Store is made possible by Google's new framework, called Play Catalog Access. This allows registered third-party stores to integrate with Play Store infrastructure while maintaining their independence.
