Aptoide Brings Limited App Store Experience to Google Play

Google's antitrust case loss to Epic Games in 2023 led to a significant change for third-party app stores on Android. The ruling required Google to host rival app stores directly within the Play Store, rather than just tolerating sideloading.

Aptoide was the first to take advantage of this new rule and launched Aptoide Games, a games-only storefront, on the Play Store in the US. However, this version is significantly limited compared to the full Aptoide store available for sideloaded APKs.

The missing security check is concerning, as it no longer displays a trusted badge indicating if an app has been scanned for malicious code. This can make it difficult for users to determine whether an app is safe before installing it.
