Archer Acquires Boeing's Autonomy Subsidiaries in Billion-Dollar Deal
Archer Aviation has made a significant move in the autonomous aviation sector by acquiring Boeing's subsidiaries Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu. This deal combines decades of expertise in autonomy, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
The acquisition brings in a defense business generating over $200M in annual revenue, with operations across 35 countries. Archer's ZEE artificial intelligence platform is expected to benefit from the autonomy foundation provided by Wisk, SkyGrid, and Insitu, which have nearly two million combined flight hours.
Boeing will retain access to Wisk's core autonomous flight technology for its current and next-generation commercial and defense aircraft through a collaboration and technology-sharing arrangement. Boeing will also take a stake in Archer as part of the transaction.
