Archer Aviation Acquires Boeing Subsidiaries to Create End-to-End Physical AI Platform
Archer Aviation Inc. and Boeing Company have entered into a definitive agreement where Archer will acquire three subsidiaries of Boeing: Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu. These companies specialize in autonomy and airspace intelligence software for aerospace and defense.
The acquisition combines the capabilities of these companies with Archer's leading purpose-built AI foundation model, ZEE, to create an end-to-end physical AI platform for aerospace and defense. This platform is expected to bring new and innovative solutions to the market.
Wisk Aero has designed, built, and flown six generations of eVTOL aircraft, amassing over 1,700 flight tests. SkyGrid has developed a leading ground-based air traffic management solution that enables safe integration and scalable automation for commercialization across the aviation ecosystem. Insitu is a pioneer in designing, developing, and manufacturing uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) used in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.
The transaction will also include a collaboration and technology-sharing arrangement between Boeing and Archer, where Boeing will retain access to Wisk's core autonomous flight technology for its current and next-generation commercial and defense aircraft. This deal is expected to close by the end of 2026 and will be subject to certain agreed-upon closing conditions.
Archer's Founder and CEO, Adam Goldstein, said this acquisition is a 'watershed moment' for Archer and the future of physical AI in aerospace and defense. The combined company will have operations across 35 countries and generate over $200 million in annual revenue.
